Celebrate Hadrosaurus Foulkii in the New Jersey State Museum's Natural History Hall

This 100% cotton tee shirt was designed and printed in Trenton, NJ to welcome the life size fossil cast of New Jersey's Dinosaur Hadrosaurus Foulkii.

According to historical records, in 1838 John E. Hopkins found large bones while digging in a marl pit near his home in Haddonfield, NJ. They remained a novelty at his home until seen by Philadelphia Academy of Natural Sciences member William Foulke. In 1858 Foulke and a local crew excavated the nearly-complete skeleton of a gigantic prehistoric animal which had the anatomical features of both a lizard and a bird. Paleontologist Joseph Leidy, a professor of anatomy at the University of Pennsylvania and chairman of the Board of Curators of the same Philadelphia Academy of Natural Sciences, was called to the scene to oversee the removal, preservation and interpretation of the fossilized remains. As a leading expert in the emerging science of fossil studies Leidy recognized that the animal was a dinosaur and that the find was an important scientific event! The bones remain today at the Academy in Philadelphia.

Our cast of Hadrosaurus Foulkii (Haddy to its friends) has a home in the Natural History Hall at the New Jersey State Museum.
